Being safe around dams!

Although the water around dams may look peaceful and inviting,
it is very dangerous!!

When water drops over a dam, a condition known as a "hydraulic roller" occurs.  When a person or an object, such as a boat, gets caught in this roller, it is almost impossible to get out.

Small dams are especially dangerous!  Why?

** They are often hard to see, especially from the upstream side.

** They don't look dangerous, so people often get too close.
