Dam Safety 2016 will feature more than 30 technical sessions on a wide variety of important dam safety engineering and program-related topics. This year's opening plenary session will focus on remembering the Teton Dam failure and understanding the impact of that event in shaping modern dam safety policy. Concurrent sessions on such popular topics as hydrologic modeling, dam owner and regulatory issues, recent extreme storm events, seismic issues, failure modes, and dam assessments round out the three-day agenda. Agenda Spotlight: Town Hall Meeting - Is It Us Against Them? Part 2: Let’s Hear From Both Sides Of The Design Review Process
The Design Review Process refers to the steps required to get a dam design from concept to regulatory agency approval. In 2012, an ASDSO Task Force was created to research this issue. More recently, the Dam Design and Construction Committee has been working on guidance for engaging the engineers and regulators early in the design process. At the 2015 ASDSO conference, a “Soapbox” session was devoted to the problems facing both consultants and regulators in the Design Review Process. The purpose of this follow-up session is to have a solutions-based discussion with the audience.
To make the most of this Town Hall Meeeting, we ask that you provide input with regard to the issues described in this short survey. Additional issues and ongoing work was presented during the 2015 ASDSO conference. For background on the work that took place leading up to this year's session, view the 2015 presentation.
Poster Presentations and Lightning Talks are a popular enhancement to the technical agenda. This year more than twenty innovative topics will be featured in the poster displays, which will be set up in the conference exhibit hall. Finally, don't miss the entertaining Lightning Talks that will be presented on Monday afternoon, Sept. 12.
