ASDSO Distance Learning Program
With the support of the National Dam Safety Program, ASDSO has launched a pilot study to gage the merit of offering a cadre of web-based courses to the dam safety community. After conducting two pilot courses (in December of 2007 and June of 2008) it became clear that there is considerable demand for this type of training. The ASDSO Board of Directors approved an ongoing plan to develop a curriculum for web-based courses, and appointed a subcommittee of the ASDSO Training Committee to oversee the project.
ASDSO's new Distance Learning subcommittee is working to refine the content developmet and delivery systems for web-based training. Two web seminars were held in late 2008:
Applying the Pareto (80/20) Principle to Geotechnical Analyses and Reviews of Embankment Projects, presented by Danny K. McCook, P.E. presented on November 20; and
Internal Erosion and Piping Considerations for Dam Safety, presented by Douglas Boyer, P.E., P.G. presented on December 12, 2008.
