ASDSO Technical Seminars
About ASDSO's Technical Training Program
As part of its educational mission, ASDSO administers a Technical Training Program, partially funded by the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency's National Dam Safety Program (NDSP). The program offers participants in-depth study in specific dam-related topics. Both basic and advanced-level short courses are offered each year, on topics selected from the ASDSO Program of Study. Basic courses are geared for dam safety regulators, engineers, dam owners & operators, and others with five or fewer years of experience in dam safety. Advanced seminars are designed to address the needs of dam safety officials and engineres with at least five years of experience, and in some cases, prerequisite courses are recommended. Most seminars last 2-4 days, and are rotated to different geographic regions over a two year period.

Program of Study
In 2001, ASDSO's Technical Training Committee developed a list of technical topics that should be included in a complete dam safety Program of Study. Many of these topics are currently addressed through courses offered by ASDSO and other organizations. ASDSO encourages the distribution and use of the Program of Study as a reference for all dam safety professionals pursuing professional development opportunities. The Training Committee welcomes your input, suggestions and new course listings. Email to info@damsafety.org

Distance Learning Opportunities
ASDSO's Distance Learning committee is developing a project plan for 2010-2011. The goal is to add web and audio-visual training topics to the Program of Study, and to begin offering short courses in a distance format on a regular schuedule later this year. The committee is chaired by Paul Schweiger of Gannett Fleming, and welcomes input and suggestions from ASDSO members and seminar attendees.
