This is an Interactive seminar focused on application and benefit of two-dimensional flow capabilities of HEC-RAS, specific to the dam safety industry. The course will maintain a balance between both lecture-style presentations on model theory and hands-on workshop sessions for examples of model applications. Topics will include applications and benefits of HEC-RAS 2D modeling; RAS Mapper and terrain preparation; running 2D models including dam, levee, and breach modeling; viewing results with RAS Mapper; troubleshooting and model review.

Learning objectives attendees will receive from this course:

  • Understand when and where to use HEC-RAS 2D
  • Develop necessary input/terrain data for HEC-RAS 2D
  • Create and run a HEC-RAS 2D model
  • Troubleshoot and review a HEC-RAS 2D model
  • Utilize HEC-RAS 2D for various dam safety applications

The course will include a refresher of open channel hydraulic theory and an overview of use and capabilities of HEC-RAS . However, intermediate HEC-RAS experience or advanced experience using other numerical modeling software is a recommended prerequisite for the course. It is also recommended that attendees have some HEC-RAS 1D experience including ASDSO’s HEC-RAS Course

  • Non-Member Rate: $1,000 on or before May 1/$1,050 after May 1

Course registration will include a training workbook containing all presentation materials and hands-on workshop instructions, as well as a flash drive with example model datasets for the workshop components.

Cancellation Policy:

  • A $75 cancellation fee applies to all cancellations received on or before May 8. After May 8 no refunds will be given.

PDHs Available:

  • 19 PDHs are available for the completion of the course. NY licensed engineers please check back close to the course for details on the number of PDHs available.
