ASDSO is looking for individuals interested in becoming conference moderators at Dam Safety 2024 in Denver, CO. Please learn more about the opportunity below. Please note - to access the volunteer opportunity you must be an active ASDSO member and signed into Collaborate.

 

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS OF MODERATORS PRIOR TO THE CONFERENCE? 

  • Connect with your speakers.
  • Review papers submitted by your session speakers. Please note - not all presentations will have papers. 
  • Let ASDSO know as soon as possible if a paper is submitted that you do not feel you can adequately review so an alternative reviewer can be assigned. 
  • Respond to questions from the speakers regarding comments made during the review process.
  • Attend the moderator training session prior to the conference (virtual).

WHAT ARE THE ON-SITE EXPECTATIONS OF MODERATORS?

  • Meet with speakers onsite and collect presentation files.
  • Arrive at your session approximately 30 minutes prior to the session to make sure all AV is working correctly. 
  • Brief introductions of the presenters.
  • Keep all speakers on time. 
  • Facilitate audience Q&A.
  • Troubleshoot all issues that arise within the room during the session and connect with the appropriate contacts to make sure the issue is addressed.
  • Complete moderator evaluation.

WHAT COMES NEXT AFTER VOLUNTEERING?

  • Notification of moderator selection (April 2024).
  • Complete moderator tasks (headshot, bio, moderator agreement) (May 2024). 
  • Review of session papers (June-July 2024).
  • Collect bios from speakers (September 2024). 
  • Orientation Call before the conference (August/September 2024).
